Music Creators’ Fund

Music Creators’ Fund promotes and supports activities and the work of Finnish music creators and music creators living in Finland by granting grants. Grants are applied for via this system.

Application rounds twice a year

The application rounds of the Music Creators’ Fund are in February and in August.

Application rounds

  • 1st round: 1.-28.2. (29.2. on leap year)
  • 2nd round: 1.-31.8.

General information

  • Submission of applications via the following website: www.klaavi.fi
  • There are five types of grants.
  • You can only choose one grant category per application round.
  • Grants are personal. If you apply as a working group (e.g. as a band), each member of the group must apply separately.
  • Grants are not granted to applicants who have been granted an artist grant or an artist working grant (from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland) for a year or more, nor to those applicants who have been granted the Special grant from this Fund during the year of the application or the year before that. Example: If an applicant has received a grant in the 1/2024 round, they can only apply for and receive a grant again in the 2/2025 round.
  • If it becomes apparent that the grant recipient has full-time employment or a long-term grant period during the grant period awarded by the fund, the grant may be recovered.
  • The grantee must report the use of the grant before the end of the year following the grant. Log in to your user account in Klaavi in the upper right corner and follow the instructions to complete the report. If the report is not completed by the deadline, you will not be able to submit a new application.
  • Membership of Finnish Music Creators association is not mandatory in order to apply.
  • Applications are processed, and decisions are made by the Music Creators' Fund Committee.
  • The assets in the fund come from the copying remunerations paid by Kopiosto ry.
  • Please note that all scholarship recipients' names will be published on Klaavi.fi.

The grantees are published on Klaavi.fi within two months of the deadline of the application round. Decisions are not subject to comments.

GRANT TYPES

Grants are granted for five different purposes. You can only choose one grant category per application round.

Types:

Working grant

For creative work as a music creator.

This grant is intended for the creative work of a composer, lyricist and/or arranger. The grant may be applied for custom work. E.g. an arranger may apply for custom music arrangements. It is recommended to include a letter of intent or contract signed by the customer to the application. The working grant is intended for the promotion of creative work i.e. creation of works, not their public performance.

Grants vary between 1000 and 3000 euros.

Uralle grant

The grant is awarded to a young artist who is serious about building a career in music. Applications can be submitted by composers, lyricists and arrangers who are Finnish citizens or residents of Finland. Applicants must be under 30 years of age at the closing date of the application round (last day of February or August).

A maximum of four grants of €3,000 may be awarded during the grant round. The application must state what the grant will be used for. For example, the use could be creative artistic work and work-related equipment or software purchases, travel, purchasing services, musician’s fees, promotional materials, or studio rent.

The grant is not awarded for live performances or the costs of publishing recordings.

The application must include at least one letter of recommendation and a work sample.

An applicant can receive the Uralle grant only once.

Traveling grant

For travel costs, residence rents, participation fees in Finland and abroad.

This grant is for travel costs, residence rents, participation fees from events related to the profession and professional qualification in Finland and abroad resulting from the music creators’ creative work.

The grants vary between 500 and 3000 euros. For grants over 1000 euros, the grant will cover 80 % of the project’s costs, 20 % of the costs are thus covered by the applicant. Please indicate the amount applied for in the application and the grant commission will take the 20 % into account in its grant decision. The application must include a detailed statement of costs.

Purchase grant

For purchases and workspace rent.

This grant is for the purchase of music creators’ working tools (instruments, software programs, computers, other equipment etc.) or workspace rent. Purchases must support the applicant as a music creator, i.e. grants for purchases needed for live performances will not be given. The grant is granted for a specific purchase or a specific period of time, e.g. workspace rent during the supported project.

The budget must be as realistic as possible and please note that the purchase must be affordable!

Special grant

This grant may be granted for an application in which the need of a particularly large support is justified. The applicant must be a well-established music creator. This grant may be applied for studies abroad, travel costs or long-term work. Only a few special grants may be granted per year.

The special grants vary between 6000 and 12 000 euros. The application must include a detailed statement of costs.
