Stipend are granted for five different purposes. You may apply for several stipend types during the same application round.
Types:
For creative work as a music creator.
This stipend is intended for the creative work of a composer, lyricist and/or arranger. The stipend may be applied for custom work. E.g. an arranger may apply for custom music arrangements. It is recommended to include a letter of intent or contract signed by the customer to the application. The working stipend is intended for the promotion of creative work i.e. creation of works, not their public performance.
Stipends vary between 1000 and 3000 euros.
The stipend is awarded to a young artist who is serious about building a career in music. Applications can be submitted by composers, lyricists and arrangers who are Finnish citizens or residents of Finland. Applicants must be under 30 years of age at the closing date of the application round (last day of February or August).
The Uralle stipend is worth €5,000, and a maximum of four stipends will be awarded per year. The application must state what the stipend will be used for. For example, the use could be creative artistic work and work-related equipment or software purchases, travel, purchasing services, musician’s fees, promotional materials, or studio rent.
The stipend is not awarded for live performances or the costs of publishing recordings.
The application must include at least one letter of recommendation and a work sample.
An applicant can receive the Uralle stipend only once.
For travel costs, residence rents, participation fees in Finland and abroad.
This stipend is for travel costs, residence rents, participation fees from events related to the profession and professional qualification in Finland and abroad resulting from the music creators’ creative work.
The stipends vary between 500 and 3000 euros. For stipends over 1000 euros, the stipend will cover 80 % of the project’s costs, 20 % of the costs are thus covered by the applicant. Please indicate the amount applied for in the application and the stipend commission will take the 20 % into account in its grant decision. The application must include a detailed statement of costs.
For purchases and workspace rent.
This stipend is for the purchase of music creators’ working tools (instruments, software programs, computers, other equipment etc.) or workspace rent. Purchases must support the applicant as a music creator, i.e. stipends for purchases needed for live performances will not be given. The stipend is granted for a specific purchase or a specific period of time, e.g. workspace rent during the supported project.
The budget must be as realistic as possible and please note that the purchase must be affordable!
This stipend may be granted for an application in which the need of a particularly large support is justified. The applicant must be a well-established music creator. This stipend may be applied for studies abroad, travel costs or long-term work. Only a few special stipends may be granted per year.
The special stipends vary between 6000 and 12 000 euros. The application must include a detailed statement of costs.
The stipend is intended for the creative artistic work of the lyricists of Lutheran parish music, creative artist residencies, strengthening networks, seeking further education or professional qualifications, or an acquisition promoting lyric writing.
The lyrics in the stipend class for lyric writing of Lutheran parish music refer to lyrics that are primarily intended for music to be performed in Evangelical Lutheran parishes.
